I have a 1979 Austin Mini 1000. When I bought the car the engine ran well however it was really loud. I've got it up on axle stands and the exhaust looks bodged. If anyone can just tell me if this is legal, safe and will pass an MOT?

Well it's certainly not standard, and probably doing you no favours.
It appears someone has bodged an exhaust out of a random collection of pipes and resonators/mufflers.

I'd consider replacing with a proper system, if the intake is standard then go standard pipe.
If the intake is modified, and you've got an lcb exhaust manifold, then find an RC40 style system, will work and look much better!

Is that a cherry bomb is see before me? - haven't seen one of those in a while!!! - looks bodged in to replace original back box benefits of those are only to make your, and everyone else's eardrums bleed - massively noisy for no real benefit. per prev advice pop a freeflow manifold on it (or a small bore LCB - heard mention of one on another topic but have never used one so can't comment on them) mated to an RC40...
