Hi everyone i really need somehelp after finding out that using 10litres of petrol for just over 15miles is not normal for a standard mini i discovered that the carb was running rich ( i know your thinking "what gave you that idea" ) i cant find the mixture screw on my carb the diagram i got is quit old and i think its for an older carb i adjusted the idle instead of the mixture (helped though it was idling at 1100) i'm 99% sure its a HIF38 i would really appreciatate any help at all i can get a picture of my carb up if anyone needs it.

Thanks
Hassan

Standing at the front of the car - looking at the carb - if it's an HIF - the mix screw is on left of the carb inlet and goes in at an angle. But adjusting that won't make much difference to 10 litres for 15 miles. You must have a leak!

If it's that bad - the choke must be stuck on!

also i just thought i'd add if its relavent it had a engine transplant from a 1988 metro it used to be an spi, and also regarding the choke when i pull the choke out it the revs do raise up and it idles now after adjusting at around about 500-800rpm at running temp as opposed to 1100-1200 rpm

Thanks

thanks for the link but my carb looks similar but it is very different linkage is on the right on my carb and so is the idle screw i dont know if that is normal to have the linkage on the other side. but also no screw on the right side, could you ring one of my pictures above to where the mixture screw could be located i might just be missing the bleedin obvious.

thanks again

Screwing it out makes it leaner so sounds like it's now set richer than before

Rig some sort of (vented) catch tank up for the end of the overflow pipe, it could be the float valve. Also what pump are you using if it's an ex SPI?

Hif chokes are separate to the main jet so it could be the choke O ring seal too.
