Hi
I was just talking to mate, and he asked me a very good question i could'nt answer and i was wondering if someone else could.
Induction Roar, its just air going into the engine..so why:
Do weber's make such a noise and an SU doesnt??
simple enough question but one i couldnt answer!!
Anyone know why?
Alastair

Webers have two barrels per carb, SU's (single) have one. Two barrels equals twice the noise

Volume of air probably makes a difference too, Weber > SU.

Radii of throat?

I used to have twin SU's with Les Leston ram stacks and Pipercross sock filters and they were deafening inside the car at full chat. I absolutley loved it.

Was it a proper roar?

You cant really compare them to each other, they are two completely different engine specs. If you want induction noise take the bulkhead blanking plate out.

I have know idea, maybe the size of the carbs and the amount of air they suck in? i am just guessing.

I have previously thought about this as well. I thought maybe it had something to do with the way the fuel is delivered inside the carb, as they have totally different jetting systems.

Webers are multi choke carbs with more bits sticking in to the airflow to disrupt it. A wide open SU only has a needle 'n the side on throttle disc.

I don't know a lot about Weber's but don't they have two venturi per barrel? Could this add to the noise?

Really, thats it! suppose it makes more sense.
I thought it might be something to do with the Variable Venturi the SU has,
Cheers
