I have just annoyingly fitted my rocker shaft back onto my engine and torqued the head down, set to adjusting the tappets and realised that one of the adjuster screws has the head broken off, so i can't put a screwdriver to them to adjust, i have spare rocker shafts which i could replace the whole thing with, but now the head is torqued down i would rather remove the offending adjuster screw, is this easily possible???? is it a case of getting a good grip and just unscrewing it to replace with a good one????

The main problem you are likely to have is that the adjuster will only come out towards the pushrod due to the size of the ball - take a look at the adjuster on Minispares website. and you will see what I mean. You may be able to wedge the valve down somehow to give clearance between the adjuster and pushrod, but make sure the piston on that cylinder is nowhere near TDC!

I think they do just come out upwards, though I can't be sure.Just give it a try.
Alternatively, you could unscrew the broken one as far as it will come, slide the rocker over against the sparing until it's clear of the push rod and valve, then screw it back right through and replace with a new one. Try all this with your spare shaft.

the bloody ball is bigger than the threaded hole, so back head nuts and rocker nuts off, adjuster replaced and back on, took less time to actually get on and do it than it did to ask the question earlier, right next problem..............................

You need to remove the rocker shaft which is easy enough without touching the head nuts.
First back of all the adjusting screws as far as they will go. Now remove the split pin, washer and sprinng at one end of the shaft, depends which rocker has the problem as to which end to work from. Remove the rocker shaft locating screw/bolt and tab. Now using a suitable drift push the rocker shaft along, until the one your replacing is free. You may need to put the car in gear and rock it back and forth to free enough rockers to get to the offending item. Keep the rockers, washers and springs in order as they come off. So you can be sure they go back in the same place, not essential but just good engineering practice imho.

You may find the headgasket didn't like being uncompressed then retightened - I'd be wary of any long journeys from home 'til it's been road tested a bit. You might've got enough clearance by pushing the rocker against the spacer spring - not actually tried this myself,
