Evening all,

I'm just getting prepared for starting my new hobby, camping! Now obviously with a tent, sleeping bag, cool box e.t.c. e.t.c., I'm not really going to have room left in the car for the Mrs! :o I do really have to take her with me, so I've decided to get a roof rack fitted which either her or luggage would be secure on. I'm going with the option to get a roof rack rahter than a trailer as I imagine it'll be a lot cheaper.

Firstly, has anyone any recommendations on roof racks?? I've seen one at minispares (see link below) which would be convenient as I could pick it up on my way up north.

Any good experiences or bad experiences are welcomed! And any tips on the best way to secure the luggage onto the roof rack would be muchly appreciated

Many thanks in advance,
Courtney

clicky

roof racks plus the decking that fits across bars which will most likely be the easiest way to put luggage on to it

make one? I did it and it was easy enough. . and that way you can make it how you want and put features on you want that you may not have got from others..

For the brackets.. well you can pick them up at shows and stuff.
You could get the hole roof rack from a show!!

I know thats not really the advice you were after but its just a thought?

That's great stuff, cheers for the responses guys!!

In all honesty on not much of a handy person, and I'm off camping this weekend so it's a bit of a last minute dash to get something up and running!! :ermm:

Love the Roof Rack website, looks like a nice piece of kit.

Cheers

Try ebay although they are expensive, about £150 for a classic one. They are listed under;

Classic Rover Mini Cooper Monte Carlo style roof rack

I would cut my arm off for one but then it would be difficult to drive with only one arm :)

If you can afford the extra, go for Thule roof bars - very well made and last forever! Plus if you have another car, you only need to get a different foot pack to fit them on. I've found that the Paddy Hopkirk bars only just clear the roof in places so you have to be really careful when putting them on - the Thule ones are a bit higher.

As Sazal said, Minimail still sell them, not sure how much think they were £80ish when i last went down (but that was about a year ago). Give Tim a call he's a good bloke and knows his stuff.

Just dont forget to take it off when you arent using it or going to a show, it makes your car use more fuel :)

Again, cheers for all the comments, it's of great help!! :)

Am going to try Minimail, see what they say!! Although I think I may end up having to sell the Mini now though as we've just acquired a dog too! Sad times, very sad times!! :techsupport:

Practical never really was my style, but I'm getting my arm twisted by the Mrs :)

Love the roof rack funnyjan, fantastic job!! If only you had a spare one to sell

All the best,
Courtney
