Like it says Boris is due an MOT and about 6 months ago his Wiper Park Switch Packed up :(
Ive just lived with it,the Wipers still work properly in every way but dont park,is this an MOT failure or so long as the wipers work and the Blades are ok doesnt it matter if they park correctly?

If it needs doing ill do it Before its MOT if not ill do it after

im not sure if its a fail or not... by park do you mean they stop verticle not horizontal... mine did this so i just took the motor off and turned the nylon wheel round inside 180 degrees.. now it parks at the bottom

Early Minid did not have self-parking wipers. You just switched them off when they got to one side, so I guess it's not an MoT requirement for them to self-park.

It doesn't matter if early minis did or didn't, the MOT is there to test whether the car still meets the legal/safety requirements that it met when it rolled off the production line...

You won't need to get it fixed for the MOT, as long as they clear the screen sufficiently.

They sell park switches at Minispares & they also sell a short loom & multiplug in case your connectors are corroded too.

if it was after 1978 iirc and certain after 1988 the wipers have to self park for an mot, but not all testers inforce it

As above, it depends how strict they are. My first Mini failed an MOT because the wipers wouldn't park....!!!

Just buy a new park switch and fix it.

In my MOT recently I watched the guy while he was carrying out the test. He did turn on the window wipers that's for sure, but didn't scoot any water. Whether they need to park or not in addition to on and off is another matter. I guess if they don't park could they be considered to be obscuring the drivers view?

There is nothing in the MOT which states the wipers must self park for any age of vehicle, however if you have self parking wipers and they park in an incorrect position obscuring the drivers view, then it is a fail.
