Bonhams Auction at Goodwood Festival of Speed
The Mini is celebrating its 50th birthday and Bonhams had 3 ex-works cars in the sale at Goodwood, the most interesting being ‘8 EMO’, ex-Paddy Hopkirk 1963 RAC Rally Mini. In the hands of Hopkirk/Liddon, the little red and white car finished 4th overall on the RAC in ’63 and sold for £67,500. The ex-Timo Makinen 1966 Monte Carlo Rally Works 1965 Mini Cooper S ‘GRX 555D sold for £56,500.

Celebrity chef James Martin bid at the sale and successfully bought the Works Mini Rally Car ‘8 EMO’ for £67,500.
James Martin said, “I have always wanted a Works Mini Cooper and I couldn’t believe my luck when this example was offered by Bonhams. They don’t come much better than this and I am looking forward to entering it into either the 2010 or 2011 Monte Carlo Historic Rally.”

It's nice that it's going to entered into rallies and not shoved into the corner of a private collection.

Hate it when people do that! So many nice cars that just sit to look good, when my mini gets finished soon, it will be to a high standard and then it will go out and get thrashed!

Well if James Martins track record with killing cars in historic rallies is anything to go by he should steer well clear. I seem to remember him blubbing like a baby when he broke his Maserati on the Mille Miglia.

I thought the bit about the Mille Miglia was great, but wasnt to impressed with Mr Martin and his willy waving cheque book resto. So far up his own behind and wouldnt listen about running his engine in properly, bloody served him right. i dare say the Beeb compensated him for his loses though
