cough.....buy the vizard yellow book, read, digest, come back with further questions....cough

as a noob to the mini tuning scene i think sub 6's is a tad optimistic. if you want power for a road car, then either turbo it or go for an engine swap. be prepared to spend loadsa money though.

hi are people confusing 1/4 mile times with 0-60?

Yes :D.

lol. i was thinking a mini running quarters in 6 would cost more then 2 grand

if you want a list and your car is standard:
1) new long centre brand (lcb) and good quality exhaust. (search for the threads on here about them)
2) stage 1 kit with good quality parts. get it fitted by a company and tuned up at the same time.
3) new sparks, ht leads, replace the rotor arm and dizzy cap, and the coil.
4) you could fit a bigger carb at the same time as the stage 1, a stage one should come with a new needle though.
5) decent oil, check the radiator isn't full of rubbish, flush out as many fluids as you can and replace with new.
6) performance air filter, i think k&n are the best? but i've got a generic as it was only £15

that should cost under 500 quid and give you a seriously sweet sounding 1275. and from there you can go as far as your budget takes you. you'd realy be suprised how just that lot will make a pretty quick car. then build in rockers and cams etc later.
if you got the weight down on the car aswell and did some suspension mods that should be a decent 0-60 aswell.

Thanks pauly that is exactly the kind of help i am after. I think running anything down to sub 6 seconds for a quarter is gonna be expensive. Jumping out of plane will get you there... just. Not sure the terminal velocity of a mini tho.

So far i have done steps 1, 2 and 6 (although still need to get it tuned)

so i'll get going on to step 3.

I want to get a new carb some people say get a big single and the twins are a bugger to tune. others say go twin all the way. Will i need any other changes to support a new carb? better radiator?

I single HIF44 would be a good choice, at a guess you got a HIF38 on at the moment. You can buy a 2 core radiator which will provide better cooling but if the water temps fine I wouldn't bother, unless your going to be running a more powerful engine, 1380 etc.

Paul.

P.s kcholak posted that list .

You could try and pick up a second hand carb, they are about 1/2 the price and you can buy rebuild kits if your up for giving it a rebuild.

Thats the book you want. THE YELLOW BIBLE

hi; no problem at all. That carb looks nice. Although it would be money well spent if you got a better radiator, especially if you're going to keep progressing on the tuning, you may find you only need to do that later on.
If you do step 3 at the same time as the carb you'll get the best from it. There’s no point sticking more fuel in the engine if it's not going to burn it! Good spark plugs on a mini will make a noticeable difference, especially for starting.
Little things like rotor arm just make the whole thing run a little sweeter.

That makes sense. I'll have a search about for a secondhand one but i have itchy fingers and may drop the money on the minispares one. i'd like to have a go at a refurb. gotta convince the missus to let me use the kitchen table. I guess thats the most common mini tuning problem

if you get a new one you'd get plenty of years service from it with no/few problems. so you can justify it that way.
but a renewed 2nd hand one would be cheaper, just watch out cause some of the 2nd hand ones are cr*p.
if you've got itchy fingers go hit halfords or a motor parts place and get some good plugs, a dizzy arm and cap, new leads etc.
ps. you don't ASK the lady friend, you just take something apart and when she asks you say it's tv dinners tonight.
