Have you checked that the throttle cable hasn't got caught or frayed? I know mine decided to rev when it wasn't ment to as the cable was frayed and got caught in the plastic sleave

im not really sure because im not really good when it comes to technical things lol but it could be something to do with it trying to idle..if that makes sense

hi that sounds like one of the cables is sticking. check that there's oil in the dashpot and that nothing's sticking in there. then get someone in the car to pull the choke out and push it in, then accelerate and then release (engine off by the way)
and watch for any cables getting caught or mechanisms not working.
take the big round airfilter off to do this for a better look.
a tiny spray of wd40 on any moving parts of the carb should solve this.
you should look into getting the haynes manual though as it covers how to do basic lubing.
if you're more mechanicaly minded get a carb refurb kit from mini spares and give it a rebuild.

Would agree on the cable being a strong contender, or something fouling it somewhere. There's a lot of lubrication in the throttle cable, for it to move very freely if it's at all sticky I'd replace it. the cable housing should be correctly fitting at the carb bracket and the bulkhead. When it's revving like that, put your foot under the throttle pedal and if you can pull it back up. Hopefully that's all it is.

Possibly throttle Cable has been moved, and melted on the Exhaust Manfold, i speak from experience on this one.

Or poor earth return has melted the cable - as it tries to carry the starter current!

Can be due to a sticking cable, but can be also a choke return spring worn and a jet blocked to a lower position.
Put you hand under the carb and try to push the jet up, and see if it goes up with a cluck. If so, there something wrong with you choke mechanism.
Another thing i'd check are air leaks. See that the vacuum pipe from servo to manifold is really tight, and spray some wd40 around manifolds, if engine revs slightly increase, you have an air leak at the manifold.
