Ive sold my mini on ebay and the dude that won the auction says he wants the VIN / chassis number for insurance. Is the normal i only needed the registration for mine.

Thanks

as he paid a deposit?

Id ask for a deposit through a paypal account registered to him for ID and contact purposes before I started giving out details of my car over the internet.

Never needed the VIN to get insurance just the reg plate. Neither have I sold/bought car on ebay, so don't know what to expect.

Is the buyer having a last minute wobble, needing the VIN to perform some sort of history/hpi check?. There's nothing wrong with the buyer being honest and enquiring about a car's history. It's perhaps a bit rich to ask after winning the auction.

From a common sense point of view, I like the goodwill deposit via paypal approach and confirming that they require the VIN for history check and not insurance. If they still say it's for insurance alone, I would ask for the insurance company and do my own research.

he's probably just trying to make sure the vehicle has no dodgy history like..
insurance write-off or stolen...etc..

It'll be for a HPI check I reckon. Sure you can do it on just on the reg but with the VIN no the buyer would be able to tell if the car's been cloned or reshelled.

[opens can of worms] Particularly important if it's a pre 73 car because no matter how much people argue... it's not really a pre 73 car if it's been reshelled into a used 88 body [/opens can of worms]

:D
