Hi guys, i am having a MG Metro engine fitted to my mini but i'm not sure what bore exhaust i should go for. I want to go either Maniflow or RC40 and i am after performance not aesthetics . The engine itself is normally aspirated.

Cheers

Nick

LCB is the best if you can afford one ! The actual exhaust sytem from there back is not so important - as long as it's free-flowing. RC 40 is just a name - adds £20 to the cost! Simple straight through Cooper S silencer and some exhaust tube is all you really need.

I would get the larger bore - for a 1275. But no doubt others will say 1.75" !

Get a 1,75" lcb and exhaust, a 2" will mean loosing backpressure, more noise and less performance.

So 'they' say - I seriously doubt it! 1.75" is for 998 - 2" for 1275.

1.75" is the optimum size or performance unless, your running a forced induction or more than 120bhp.

'They' do say that 1.75" is best for all but highly tuned engines upwards of 1275.

Does anyone know what David Vizard says about it?

As Night Train says 1.75" is optimum for Mini engines up to 120bhp, as stated by David Vizard in his many books.

This doesn't mean you cannot use a larger bore tail pipe if you want as this has no effect over the rest of the system.

RC40 is the one to go for!!

Steve.

Without wishing to offend anyone.........

RC 40 is just a name - adds £20 to the cost! Simple straight through Cooper S silencer and some exhaust tube is all you really need.

RC40 is a specific and well proven design, it's not just a name.

1.75" is the optimum size for large bore normally aspirated A series engines. Any larger and the gas velocity starts to drop below acceptable speeds.
