So I went for a little Mini adventure today - well, I went to get the stuff for the Sunday roast in the Mini to be more exact!

Got everything, left Sainsburys in Alton, Hampshire, headed back home when suddenly some sort boulder got kicked up from a passing car and hit the windscreen. This is what happens when you have toughened glass and not the new laminated sort...

I ought to point out, that although my head should be in the way where a big arse hole in the windscreen is, that only happened once I'd got out of the car and shut the door!

On the plus side, I'd been meaning to replace the windscreen now for some time and now is the perfectly legitimate to do it! Huzzah!

ouch! that looked dangerous! glad you're ok. There will be glass *everywhere* inside the car, you'll be finding it for months! I always thought laminated glass windscreens were fitted as standard on modern minis?

Yeah, well - the guy I bought it from took it to a garage to fix it up before I took it. I strongly suspect that the grease monkey took out the expensive laminated one I had, and replaced it with some cheap sh!te. And the glass will be Autoglass's problem when they get their hoover out to get the spillage!

Reminds me of a windscreen issue I had thinking isn't that meant to be laminate? wasn't a Mini, was my bmw 3 series and some *child born out of wedlock* shot it with a BB gun. One little bump and boom glass everywhere

I don't think they'll be using their fancy gel to repair that one!

Thankfully everything is ok (for the most part anyway)
i've heard so many horror stories about that glass, people having to punch out the glass to see where they're going etc. As said by others, I would have thought that later minis would have laminated glass, but apparently not so, by the sounds of this garage's work :)
