I have a 1968 Mk2 mini cooper and am trying to fit the rear roll cage. Can anybody give me any pointers. I have taken the whole interior of the car out as it was pretty obvious that this was required and am struggling to locate the frame. I have tried a number of ways of getting the cage in. There is obviously a real art to this. Do you need to take the front windowscreen out??

Any help much appreciated

Andy

just a rear one.?

I did mine this way

Remove all interior, handbrake off, car in gear or supported. Opened both doors, slide the cage in from one door, get someone to help guide it in through the other door. You need to tilt it so that the roof bar, goesover the steering wheel towards the windscreen. Then you have to lift the legs which go into the rear door bins, up and over. Once resting on top of the door bins, you need to push the car towards the rear of the car and guide the legs into the right sort of position.

People have also said it helps to remove the rear side windows incase of damages and that they found it easier be pulling the legs which goto the rear arches in with some rope or similar. This will help get these legs past the B pillars

Just had a word with a friend who said you need to rachet strap the two longer sections of the frame so that they compress inwards. Just about to pop over to his to collect his 1.5ton rachet as this seems to make sense. Thanks for the post Jordie.

PS. If anybody else has any tips please post as I am sure this isn't going to be straight forward. IS ANYTHING MINI RELATED???

Andy
