Hi guys, I know that this topic has been up before, but I am getting some bucket seats very soon, and am thinking of running harnesses, firstly do I need to run harnesses with bucket seats? im not having a cage, so I know the inertia reel belts are ok (so you don't die from hitting your head on the cage in a crash)

Secondly, where should I mount them if I do get a harness? Im thinking 4 point, so im guessing the 2 normal bolts on the floor for the 2 sides? and now im stuck, I know I can't use the parcel shelf (its for parcels, not people) but im not running a cage, so I can't put them onto that. I know it has to be about 10degrees down (or up to 45 degrees is acceptible) do I need to weld in something on the rear bench (ie take the rear seats out - I know you can't really have both)

Can people post up a few photos of how it should be done in the back please :w00t:

I take it you're not having rear passengers? If not then you can use the existing seat belt mounts for the rear seats...

Isn't that attached to the rear parcel shelf though?

Nope , not attached to parcel shelf.

Fixing point goes through rear seat panel then attaches to a plate thats accesible through the boot.

If I had installed the harness I would probably have gone a bit lower but that's how it came. It's been used several times at Santa Pod and took a tumble in 2007 at Castle Combe so you could say it's been stress tested :w00t:

Is that just a hole drilled though the rear seats and a plate bolted though? where can I get those eyelets from? would I need different connectors if I used the rear anchorage points - as I have read that bolting them flat isn't correct

I dont see how having the mounting that high up in the rear seat back is any different to the parcel shelf given that is all the seat back is attached to at the top.

It is just a hole drilled through, basic but effective.

As for the eyelets well here's some to start with.

But I am sure there must be loads of places to get them from.

Agreed and as I said I would mount them differently as in a much lower down position to gain some additional strength. Not recommending they are mounted that high up, just showing how they are attached for visual reference (Eyelets, Plates etc)

Here's some of the info thats been posted on this forum in the past.

Ok, I will be bolting them down to the current rear seat anchorage points - im guessing that ok, its at the 45 degree limit, but I guess if I get a cage then I will mount it within the 10 degrees that is ideal

What harnesses is everyone running? I have been told to get the 3" ones for a bit more comfort etc, what has everyone got, where from, what are they like ane how much?

i appreciate that posters on here have mounted their harness through the rear seat back but "generally" it is advisable not to mount harnesses to either the parcel shelf or rear seat back as they are not designed to take forces involved in a crash.

if you do fits harnesses, then you either should:
a) fit a harness bar
b) use the rear seat belt mounting poins at the base of the rear seat (angle is wrong but better than parcel shelf)
c)make structural mods/bracing to the parcel shelf and rear seat back.

Where did you get that harness bar? I am thinking of fitting it via the rear seatbelt harness points, as they have been designed for seatbelts lol would I need to attach or change anything 2 the holes? I am guessing that the harness points would be flat, so bolting them flat onto the points isn't any good looking at that photo.

Where can I get those harness mounting points that are upright?

I would bolt them to the attachment points for the rear seat beltl on the bench.

If you check out figures 1 and 2 on the poster that maph2 posted up, would just bolted the harness onto the rear mounting points be like figure 2? Is there something I can do to make sure that the harness is like figure 1?

my harnesses clip into the rear seat belt mounts, except that the harness bar allows the straps to come off the back of the seat at the optimum angle for holding me in the seat, then drop down on to the fixing points.. its all in the angle of the dangle.

prior to my 5 point harnesses, i used a 3 point harness which clipped on to an eyelet bolt on the rear seat base and the front belt points in the sill and propr tunnel by the handbrake.

screw the eyelet bolts into the rear seat belt mounts at the base of the rear bench and the one by the front seats. buy some harnesses that clip on to the eyelets........
