Hey guys, having problems with my mini cooper. When starting it, it will idle at like 300rpm then just stall after a few seconds unless i keep the revs up.

I had this prob and it turned out to be the stepper motor,get an assistant to turn ignition on (engine not running) and watch to see if the little pin pushes the linkage properly.You should be able to clearly see it move.
Could also be coolant sensor sending wrong signal but only real way to check this one is to either check resistance or fit a new one.
