HAs anyone put the BL B-series engine into a mini?

Obviously would need the gearbox off a traverse engine if i wanted to keep it fwd (which i do)

Any ideas/problems etc?

i think the problem would be the width of the engine and side mounted gear box fitting under the bonnet

Side mounted transverse gearbox?

Isn't the 'B' Series engine a, f*cking heavy & big chunk of iron with no real power? Like 1800cc & 95HP? If it's only for the sake of doing something different - why not. Probably suits a 'Princess'/O-Series gearbox. Resp. can be made to fit. With all the work needed for another egngine conversion - with less power. If it's not too big at all?

Going back to err............ about 1985 I think we took an engine from a Maxi and lobbed it in a mini

It was heavy and I think the steering was seriously restricted but it went well enough in a straight line and the guy that built it was happy enough
lo tech by todays standard but there you go.

If I am correct the Austin Maxi was a 1750cc b series engine,
they are quite a bit taller the the mini engine.

aperantly a few of the italian job mini's mad them fitted for the extra torque on certain stunts....

"several people who were working for BMC at the time have gone on record as saying at least one Mini was specially prepared for the film, being equipped with the BMC 1800cc B-series engine and gearbox from the BMC 1800 'Landcrab', as the Coopers lacked sufficient torque to climb stairs."

thats a quote of this website http://www.theitalia...ars_coopers.htm.

right the austin 1800 had a B series engine fitted 1798cc OHV other models had a 2.2 fitted not a B series. so a B series transverse might fit a mini.

1800 B series was in the 1800 landcrab in transverse for as mentioned,

the 1750 O series was in the maxi and some allegros, there was also 1500 O series.

the 2200 landcrab was a 6 cyl ohc, prettu sure it was an O series with 2 more cyls, still only had 110hp...
