hi everyone, ive been offered a Nikki twin choke carb, are they any good?

i have a 998 engine and a 1275 engine, which one would it be better for?

and is there anything i can do to my 998 engine to make it run a bit better? eg head/ carb /exhaust change?

Do you know the choke sizes? I've driven my old man's Datsun 180B which is 1800 OHC for the past couple of years. Its had a Nikki from factory and runs pretty well

Yer i'd take it, there quite rare and worth quite a bit even if you dont want to use it. If you don't want it i'll buy it off you.

This is what I said to another guy who wondered what a Nikki carb was like....

'I had one on my first mini 998 in the '70's and my mate had one in his 1275GT back then..... and I still had it to fit it to my son's 998 a couple of years ago (since re-engined to 1330 with an HIF 44). If it's like the one we have, you'll have problems trying to find spares for it as the style originally sold for the mini is no longer produced. Now considering fitting it to our other project car just for fun....

It certainly produced better power than the standard back in the day, but not sure how it stands against (others today). As far as economy went, as long as you stayed under 60-65 only the smaller choke was open and you could get 50-60 MPG (can't remember the 0-60 time - memory loss), but as soon as you put your foot down slightly more you heard the second choke open, got a fairly good response, but could see the fuel gauge drop! used to make a great sound when accelerating though!'

Hope that helps some. As for rare, they are, I've ssen them on ebay a couple of times and they go for about £40-£70 but are mostly old and not in the best of condition. As I said above, spares (the rubber bits mainly) are impossible to find.
