Been looking for a new project mini for some time now after selling my last one and then regreting it and last night I found one and bought it.
It's a 1974 orange mini clubman. The car has been standing for a couple of years now but is in suprisingly good condition. there is obviosly rust in the car but compared to alot of others I have looked at it ain't bad. There is a hole about the size of a 5p piece on the top of the drivers wing and the front part of the passenger side floor will need replacing and thats it. once thats done i'll stick it in for an mot. hopefully the car will be on the road for the winter warmer show at the begining of november. Don't know what she'll be looking like though.
The car was bought to work on this winter but it would be nice if I could get it on the road by then.

The engine is a 1100cc and has been fitted with a stage 1 kit (so the last owner tells me). Other than that it has a set of 10" cosmic alloys and thats it. The paintwork is very faded and will need a respray but that won't' be for some time yet. I'll get some pics up later once the car has been delivered to me.

The little clubby was delivered to me at 7.30 this morning and we pushed it off the lorry and into my garage. The bloke went and I set to work. I tried to start the car and although firing and trying it would not start up. A different set of plugs soon sorted that and the engine sounds very good! We had trouble pushing it into the garage as the brakes are sticking on a bit so thats another job for the weekend.
I oredered the floorpan repair panel that I need from a local paint shop yesterday so I'll pick that up later today and set to work on the welding.

After having a better look over the car there is more work than I first thought but i'll get there eventually. better get back to some work and i'll get some pics up later

Best of luck with your project and keep us posted ... with pix if you can!

there is more work than I first thought but i'll get there eventually

That could be a motto for all of us I guess. Plus, "if I finish a job within the time I thought it would take I've left something important out."

I'm sure you thought of ways of improving the mini anyway, so I'd call it a productive afternoon none the less!!

been in the garage most of the day as haven't got alot done up til now. started stripping the car to see how bad the rust is. there is a fair amount in the car but i've started to cut it all out and any panel with rust in will be eventually replaced.

Trying to get the car on the road for the winter warmer is going to be a hard task to achieve after looking into the car more so I think i may just crack straight on with the project and try and get it all finished for the Riviera run next year. It's a shame but instead of bodging it up to get an mot on it to use for 1 weekend then take it off the road to do all the work properly seems a bit silly so i may as well o it properly from the start!

Keep saying it but i'll try and get some pics sorted when I can

Thought as I was putting in a new floor on the passenger side i may as well put one in the drivers side to althoughit is quite solid but has been poorly welded in the past. Ordered that today so that should be here by tomorrow so I can then get on with welding the new floor in and then it should look like a proper car and not a flintstones one!

spent the afternoon in the garage and have been cutting out alot of rust from the car so i can hopefully spend the weekend welding in new panels. The car is just a rolling shell at the moment and has been completely stripped. The more i strip the more rust i find! not good!

A month on and it's looking a little better now. all the rust has been cut out apart from the wing and new panels welded in place. all of the floorpans are done, I have put in a new boot hinge panel as the old one was rotten and have made up new repair panels for other places around the car. The old battery box has been cut out and a new one now needs welding in. with thyat done the rear end of the car is really coming on.
I am going to replace both sills as they are looking a bit thin in places so that is one of the next jobs.
The engine is nearly ready to be lifted out in the morning to so the engine bay can be cleaned and painted. Just need to take the drive shafts out and that can then be lifted out.
