Hi

I found this guide on how to fit a stereo
http://www.theminifo...showtopic=11215
was very helpful and all went well. However I noticed this morning that after not using the car for a day it struggled to start. I was wondering if the constant power connection could be enough to drain the battery, maybe the battery was not meant to be used with a stereo?

Any thoughts would be appreciated

does the stereo have a memory built in ?

i find if i remove the front face of mine the current draw goes from 0.1 A down to 0.01A

might be worth a try :(

could be your wiring..as mine was the same..only way is to either leave it unplugged or switch the yellow and the red wires over

Thanks for the replies.

Not sure about the memory, not as far as I know. It’s this stereo: http://www.minidisc....MDX-CA680X.html

The front has been off the whole time.

I’m pretty sure the wiring is correct; it only turns on when key is turned.
I was thinking about unplugging the continuous, would this cause a problem? Or maybe moving the continuous to position 1 and the position 1 to position 2?

... thinking abut it, that guide suggested using an in-line fuse for the constant live, I got mine from the fuse box (I'm not sure what the difference is to be honest). Could this have anything to do with it?

Fuse won't be the cause a fuse is a protection against excess load.

Depending on the age of the Mini - if your fuse box is the 4 style set then remember many other parts of the car are feeding off it.

Having an in-line fuse on the Radio rated correctly means if there is a fault its not going to take out the main fuse with it.

1st thing I would check is if you can turn it on with the ignition off - if you can that would indicate your main V+ is wired to your permanently live.

I assume were talking radio only - no additional power amps etc.

Ah ok.
It's 1995. Nope, you can't turn it on with the ignition off. Yeah, it's just a head unit.

... so does anyone know which side of the fuse box is fused, and which side should be used for what?

I think there may be more to this..
I went on holiday for a few days (with the car) and while I was there I left the car, unused in a car park the whole time. When it was time to come home it started fine. On the way home I had the stereo on, the sat nav charging (I've fitted a cigarette lighter) and it was raining so I had the wipers, lights and demister on. I stopped for petrol, when I tried to restart the engine after filling up, the battery was almost completely flat. I would have thought after driving for an hour or so the battery should have been fully charged. Anyone got an ideas? Could there be an intermittent charging problem?
