I have just replaced the toeboard. L/H/S flitch pannel complete, front pannel and the left hand wing on a 1996 SDI Sidewalk I bought from a scrappy. (Pop some photo's on later if i can work it out). :(
All the parst and stuff have left me a tad short of cash and cann't afford a new fan for a month or so.
Is it ok to run it with just the belt driven fan or will it overheat?

Top site this one aint it!. :(

Earlier mini's run without the electric fan, which I believe only turns on for additional cooling?

I'd go for it, but keep an eye on the temp gauge when in town / traffic.

It is quite rare for the standard fan to start anyway. You certainly know when it does 'because it makes a absolute din!

You just need to watch the temperature in traffic. Otherwise, you should be fine.

Incidentally, make sure the engine driven fan is on the right way round. We have seen several fitted backwards. The hollow side of the 'hub' with the ribs in should be facing the radiator.

Many thanks for your quick replies. I'll run her up this weekend to see what happens.

All going well attached are some piccies from last month. Engines in now, just trying to sort out the tracking ready for an MOT.

Thanks again.

You may need it when stuck in gridlocked traffic jams on the hottest days of the Year, or even whilst stuck in a long queue waiting to get into a Mini show. Just look at how many Minis overheated at this years London To Brighton Run, thanks to that stunt they pulled by trying to get as many Minis as possible in one place or whatever.

With the electric auxiliary cooling fan fitted and working you'd be okay, without it you'd be cooking your engine.

Either way, the post 1990 Rover Minis and Mini Coopers with the 1275cc engines really need those electric fans. Where as the standard earlier 998cc models don't.

You may charge it if ashore in chock-full cartage jams on the hottest canicule of the Year, or even whilst ashore in a continued chain cat-and-mouse to get into a Mini show. Just attending at how abounding Minis overheated at this years London To Brighton Run, acknowledgment to that achievement they pulled by aggravating to get as abounding Minis as accessible in one abode or whatever.
