Recently got a new head-unit (this one) so figured now would be a good time to upgrade the rest of my car.

Speakers i have at the moment are terrible so i plan on taking these out and starting from scratch.

So with a budget of £100-£150 for some decent speakers and if needed an AMP i was wondering what speakers people can recommend, also will later be buying a sub but will sort that later.

I'm right in thinking a pair of 6x9's would be best? going to mount them on a speaker board under the rear seats.

Thanks if anyone has any suggestions!

the vibe 6x9s are meant to be good...however after listening to some JBL 6x9s and then listening to some vibe ones i prefer the sound of the jbl ones. (dnt remember model names sorry)

its a reasonable enough HU for a pretty basic setup, not looking for a high end set-up hense my budget. looking for a pretty entry/middle level one.

Not sure on recommendations of speakers mate, but, on your budget i'd run them off the HU and add the sub/amp later on (as you plan to). I ran 13cm Coax in the front and a pair of 6x9's in the rear shelf in my first mini and never regretted it. I wouldn't however, put 6x9's under the rear seat unless you are using them purely for Bass purposes (the idea being the bass is non-directional), read on for a better idea of why i say this.

To get some advice, I recently took a trip down the Genesis in Southend and had a chat with Gordon (absolute Car Audio LEGEND) and he suggested that their 6x9 subs (Genesis P69's) would work to the best of their ability in a well sealed board under the rear seat or in the rear shelf in place of full range speakers. The combined surface area of a pair of P69's would give you just over that of a standard 10" Sub.

Personally, I now believe that something to think about would be to run a decent set of speakers up front with a view to fitting something like the P69's later on. [Ouster - sounds like you nailed the install there ;)]

Hope this gives you some ideas?

Hells yeah! :genius:
I need to install my stuff in my new mini actually. Should sound so much better in this one - it's actually got soundproofing! Although I need to think of where to put the gigantic amp...

vibe sek component speakers, mount some either 5.25 or 6.5 components including tweeters in some cheap abs door pods, 6x9's on the parcel shelf (bit chav but does give more crisp mid and high notes as well as the bass.

though to be fair the vibe sek components are more than capable of producing some serious bass, i'm using 2 sets off the head unit then running 2 6x9's and a 10 inch vibe blackair sub off a 4 channel blackair amp (you bridge 2 of the channels to make it 3 channel)

basically door component speakers, component speakers on parcel shelf (lots smarter) then you can add the 6x9's and a sub when you have the money

the manual of the amp will tell you how to bridge it (when you get one) i basically just gives you 1 output to left 6x9 1 output to right 6x9 and 2outputs (combined into 1) to the sub, this gives extra power to the sub for some serious bass LOL

but anyways, the vibe speakers in the pic are 50 quid a pair off ebay (search vibe sek)

hope this is clearer, i can always go for 3rd time lucky lol XD

My bad - I know what bridging is (and yes I do have an amp :errr:). Seemed like a very odd way of describing it to me: I don't think of bridging two channels on a 4 channel sub as making it into a 3 channel sub.

yeah sorry, i wrote it in a retarded way '' i know what i mean'' style lol, yeah i should have put bridging 2 of the channels to one to reduce it from 4 to 3 channels in total

better??? ... hopefully XD

with the head unit you have, i would susggest that you buy a set of 6x9's and fit them to the rear shelf if you can. that way you wont loose any sound quality. if you fit them to the underside of the rear seat you might as well buy the cheapest set you can find.

the other option is to fit a set of smaller speakers to the front of the car and buy a sub/amp kit/ nothing too fancy. go for a 10" in a sealed box for a tight sound, with 5" in the front. you can make some cheap pods for the front by taking some used paint pots and cutting the lid off, cut the speakers hole in the bottom and covering with some felt from the local thread shop. run the fronts off the HU and the sub from the amp.

you should be able to pick up and sub/amp and some front speakers for £150 off of the internet, second hand is always good for subs and amps people can't sell them, good deals to be had by all

I'm thinking of installing it stealthily on the rear seat somehow - I can't carry passengers due to my rollcage and harnesses, but it would also have to be completely hidden since I park in a Tescos in Coventry during the day, so I'll see what I can do...
