my 6x9 in my astra run straight off the headunit with no amp
although all the wireing was already done as it was left when i bought the car.
Mine are only budget ones but with some songs, you'd think there was a sub.

fine without
LOUDER WITH
basically its up to you, its easier to just wire the 6x9s directly to the head unit but you will get a louder better sound from an amp with a lot of bass if you want it.
hope this helps

plus, if you wire up an amp to the 6x9's, you save yourself from buying a subwoofer
and losing what little space the mini has left

If you have the time/inclination/resources/funds it is always worth getting an amp (in the same price bracket as the speakers; there's not a lot of point spending lots on an amp to go with cheap speakers or vice versa) and the install is very important too. I have mine mounted in my mini in the fairly standard way, under the back seats in an MDF board, got the rough dimensions off here http://www.miniproje...eaker_board.htm
It's a fraction of the system I used to have in my (more accommodating) Golf but really pleased with how it sounds. The Speakers and amp are fairly middle of the road too, nothing special.
