Being a bit of a spendthrift (great word) and not having all that much money in the first place, being 15, I'm looking to save money on my Mini wherever possible without cutting too many corners. I want a sub, but can't justify spending big money on a stereo so I've spied this on ebay for something ridiculous like 40 quid posted, brand new.

Would it be loud? And produce more than 1 note rather than just going poom poom? Being 100 watt rms, its the same as the Fusion bass tube I've spotted, so it shouldnt be too much quieter should it..? Or will it just sound crap? Opinions please...

in my opinion...

if you can't afford a decent sub don't bother with one at all.

if your 15, i would leave the ICE side of thing until last, concentrate on getting the car properly sorted and looking nice. no point in having loud stereo in your car when its in a garage, and by the time you're 17 and the car is on the road, you could probably get much better stuff as new tech. gets released, old tech stuff gets cheaper (in theory)

Well that's that one settled then!! I am curious as to how that would sound compared to a more expensive sub, but I'm not wasting £40 of my money if it turns out to be crap!!

I've decided on this one now, if i get one at all, and I know Fusion are meant to be crap but I've read a magazine review saying it's a great sub for the money (and very loud) so I'm decided on that now.

redhotmini - thats sound advice actually (excuse the pun..) since I've ordered half an interior and theres a lot more I could be doing to it besides so I might just forget the stereo for now, stick with what I've got and get the rest of it sorted... hmm :)

I personally wouldn't run anything other than jl audio i want a 12w7 but dont have £250 for the sub let alone another £100 for the box then theres decent leads another £100 then filters another £100 then components another £200 then a good headunit £300 and then a few amps another £500 so unless you want bass regardless of what it sounds like buy cheap if you want a real sound system start saving serious money the quality is a world apart :)

its advice the old man gave me. i'd rather have a nice looking car first, the ICE setup is a luxury which i can build up later on.

After popping down to Halfrauds today to have a butcher's at the Fli and the Fusion, they didnt have the Fusion and the Fli one looked and felt kinda plasticky close up, even though it looked quality in the pics, so I went a bit mad and got a Vibe CBR10 active instead :D it wasn't as budget as I might have hoped but the build quality is excellent and I've read the sound quality will be as well :D thoughts?

I was going to just leave it and do what you said when I realised I'd have to rip up my new carpets and pull most of my newly fitted interior out in order to wire it up if I bought it later, which I wasnt keen on doing, and I thought I'd finish off the stereo before moving onto another part of the car..

Tomorrow - alarm ;)

That sounds awesome, I was going to go for 2 12"s in the rear bulkhead but I decided it would be silly and that I wanted my rear seats!!

Pics though when you get it in!!

I'm also planning making the rear quater bins into speaker boxes by putting a board over the top of them and mounting lil speakers in them

Sounds good, wish it was possible to get a set of 6x9s in there...

Anybody got any ideas where I could relocate my 6x9s to now I've got my sub? Other than under the rear seat, but they might have to go there if theres nowhere better. In the meantime they're staying in the shelf with a couple of 'ports' for good measure..

mmm, sub = weight and drain on the engine

drain on the engine and weight = lost performance

personnally idd just put two jbl 6x9s under the rear seat for bass and two ickle faders and tweeters up front, i think subs in minis sound crap, especially in the boot
