Hi
For my 1960 mini, which i am restoring, I have been told that for MOT it doesnt require any seatbelts, as they were not introduced to minis until 1964 (ish)
My cencern however, is that for the MOT, it should not fail due to having no seatbelts then.
But my concern is if I get stopped by the police! Would they insist that I wear a seatbelt even though the MOT doesnt require it? I know this may sound like a stupid question, but there must be police out there who don't really understand what is legal and what isnt, on a 1960 mini. They may insist that front occupants MUST wear a seatbelt, and what about fitting child seats?? I dont have kids, but just thought I would ask!
Cheers

Pretty sure the law requires you to use one if it's there.
It doesn't matter if the Police don't know the law they still can't prosecute you if you're in the right.
back again,
Beats me why you wouldn't want to use one if you can: especially in a car without burst proof doors.

You can't be prosecuted for failing to wear a seatbelt if the was never fitted with belts. If you fitted some and failed to wear one, that's a different matter. By the way, the law changed recently and the penalty for fail to wear seatbelt has increased from £30 to £60!still non endorsable tho(no points)This may be helpful.
and 1965 It becomes compulsory to fit seat belts in the front of cars built in Europe.
as well as this for seatbelt info.
