If youre issueing a blocked/worn/uncorrect height needle valve, check also the jet isnt blocked. Remove it and use an air compressor to clean it.

it runs really well, but the fuel keeps overflowing, surely when the engine is switched off the fuel shouldnt come past the pump?

Yes fuel can came past the pump. How much fuel comes out when engines switched off?

sounds like the fuel pump is not closing and the fuel is just coming through under gravity.

But, if fuel is coming out of the overflow on the carb the the float in the bowl is not able to shut it off, this maybe dues to excessive pressure on the inboard side, or more likely there's a little bit of grit stopping the valve from closing or the float is punctured...

a steady stream almost seems like there is fuel coming out until the pressure is released, if fuel still comes through the pump, should the float still shut it off completely?
