Hi

My car seems to get really bad and hesitates to accelerate at times but at other times it seems alright. The car wasn't doing this before the carb fuel and air mixture wasn't tuned in properly by my brothers garage. any have any ideas as to why it might hesitate to accelerate.

Thanks

Ricky

it may be, mine used to hesitste when pulling away, the timing was quite retarded, adjusted and is better now.
it could be you running too rich and the plugs are sooting up, does it only hesitate once its been idling fo a while???

it seems too hesitate when im in 3rd and 4th really some times 2nd but not 1st. its most likely not running to rich as the garage tuned the carb in on a CO2 machine. May sound stupid but how exatly do i adjust the timing ?

Thats the problem, it needs richening up, the A series engine was never designed to run this weak !

it should be set up properly to what your engine actually needs rather than a book setting. are you running everything as standard or have you got engine mods? also do you know what needle you have in the carb?

its an mg metro engine with a KandN cone filter with an oil cooler, the needle in the carb now is the stage 1 i bought from minispares so is the correct needle.

If its a AAU needle then it might be a bit weak for a more flowing k&n cone filter try a AAM.

Paul.

Stage 1 1275 Needle is a BDL, standard MG Metro needle is a BDL. By virtue of the fact your running a KN, resulting in more air flow than standard. What makes you think a standard needle will do ?

Try richening it up !!! Set the tickover to a thousand rpms and only touching the mixture screw adjust it until you find the point at which the tickover has increased the most. If you keep a note of what you've done you can return it to your present setting come MOT time.

thanks nighttrain, I will look at what needle is in the carb as i can't remember if the needle was a BDL or a BCE but it was what I asked for when I went into minispares and they gave me this one. I'll look at the haynes manual to richen up the carb and will let you know how it goes. Thanks

If it's a BDC this 'IS' your problem, you need at least a BDL maybe a even a BDR with that filter.
