Hi,

Im looking at doing an install at some point, but i am working to a bit of a budget.
I was wondering how you guys rate the EDGE stuff?

Im planning to have 4 6x9 inch speakers and 4 5.24 component speakers and mabe a 12inch sub or bass tube in the boot, and 2 amps.

This is what i was looking at getting.

Im looking for good bass, but also a reasonably high quality sound. Will this suit it?

Thanks

Chris

If you're working to a budget wouldn't you be better off spending your money getting better speakers rather than getting more than you really need (even for a pretty loud setup) in a Mini? The Edge stuff should be your standard budget car audio fare, and it should be fine if you really can't justify spending more on it and you take the time to set it up properly, but if you can get 1 set of 6x9s, 1 set of components and 1 amp then you'll be able to get more expensive stuff which will sound better and probably be louder too.

I'd recommend a set of vibe SEK50s for up front, a set of QB69s maybe for the back (not to everybodys tastes but they sound good), Vibe Slick A4 amp and a CBR10 active for in the boot. That bass box you've chosen will be a tight squeeze in the boot if it fits since the CBR10's a snug fit and the one you linked to's a few centimetres higher. (do searches on caraudiosecurity - im on my phone and I cba to do the links)

That all works out cheaper than what you linked, and it'll be better and probably louder  sorry for messing up all your plans but you asked for advice lol.. you could always go for your setup with a 10" Edge sub and half the speakers, and put your money to good use elsewhere on the car :genius:

just to add, the Edge stuff will be good for the money but the point is for the same or less money you can get better quality and probably volume out of it, with less speakers :P

I did look at the vibe setup, but i wasnt able to find amps powerfull enough in the vibe range to power what i wanted.

What im planning is 4 6x9's under the rear seats, and 2 4 or 5.25inch components in each rear bin, and then if needed a sub in the boot, but im not sure ill need it

I have mesured up and it should fit.

Im aiming for a setup which cannot be seen at all from inside or outside the car, appart from the sub, if i fit one. So speakers in the dash or pods under the dash, are a no no, and the same goes for speakers on the parcel shelf and doors.

I also dont really want to spend much more than about £500, but i am happy to spend £500 then a few months later add the sub at extra cost if i feel i still want it.

to be honest i am a complete ICE novice, so all advice would be brilliant.

That Vibe amp's more powerful than the Edge one you linked to >_< if you want you could still use the Edge amp with the Vibe stuff, it doesn't really matter to be honest.

Aah i see, I assumed you were planning the 2 6x9s in the rear shelf and 2 under the seat, and 2 sets of components up front somehow.

If you're going for a hidden install then so am I, your best bet's probably to have the components up front with the mids in modified Metro door bins, the holes in them are really subtle so unless you looked really hard you couldn't tell, but if you wanted it completely hidden you could cover it in some acoustic carpet, then the tweeters hidden inside the air vents and nobody would know they were there (you can keep them as air vents as well!)

Or i've got 6x9s in the parcel shelf which will have acoustic carpet on a board over them, meaning they're completely invisible.

Particularly if you're going for a hidden install, and are working on a budget, you should go for quality not quantity!! You might regret spending your money on loads of speakers when you could have got better quality ones for the same or less money.

Or you could do what I've done, which is to get quality stuff cheaper than what it's meant to be, but still hidden, then put the rest of the money towards a quality alarm.

I'd recommend the Vibe setup I posted earlier with acoustic carpet over the 6x9s, mids in the door bins, tweeters in the air vents and the CBR10 in the boot. Sorted!

ok, now i think ill start with this set up:

http://caraudiosecur...ts_id/5318.html
http://caraudiosecur...ts_id/9147.html
http://caraudiosecur...ts_id/8824.html

Then if i decide i want more ill at a sub in the boot, or double that.

When i make the boards ill leave the space for the 2nd set.

Sounds like a better setup to me, it should be ideal for what you want it for, of course if you were on slightly more of a budget you could get the Edge setup but with 1 of each set of speakers.

I went out and gave my setup a quick blast today (Infinity 9623i 6x9s, 4" Pioneers up front and a CBR10 in the boot, none of the speakers amped) and that sounds awesome before I've even started setting it up so yours should sound pretty good. Can't help thinking it would sound better with a set of SEK50s up front, the Pioneers in the rear bins and the 6x9s and components amped up but it packs one hell of a punch even as it is.

If you can run to it the Vibe SEK speakers are frigging awesome - but the slicks will be damn good too
