hi, i have a maniflow single box side exit 1 3/4" system at the monent which does sound really nice untill a long trip on the motorway gives me a headache. i do have sound deadening throughout the car and on the firewall under the bonnet.

i was just wondering if anyone has had similar and swapped for a twin box RC40 system and if it was worth doing? are they a lot more civilised?

Twin box system is quiter, but still louder than the peashooter.
And it seems to perform better than a single box system.

What air filter is fitted , cone / pancake filters make more noise than a standard airbox.

Just done 600 mile of motorway driving, only time exhaust was obtrusive was with the window open at speed. Single box, maniflow

i have a standard air box with a K+N element. its not that loud, its the drone lol feels like my head will pop if you know what i mean? i also have the freeflow manifold which is quieter than the lcb.

i did similar a 200 miles to Mini 50 doing 65-70mph with the window open when it was at its worst. 50mph it wasnt that bad but it takes forever to get to places at that speed.

Its not quiter, its just it sounds in a different way, a bit 'deeper' while the lcb sounds a bit 'throathier'.

I agree with both of jaydee's posts.

I had a RC40 single box stupid size exit and a lcb on my 998 and was nice round town and on country lanes, but motorway mileage did my head in after a couple of trips. I then opted for the cooper freeflow manifold and RC40 twin box (the one you get one of the minispares 998 stage1 kit) and is alot more civilised on the motorway (4000rpm @ 70mph), yet still sounds nice on the roads. It's actually quieter at 70mph than 60mph.

Hi blacktulip. I've got the same 998, 1 3/4 side exit single box maniflow exhaust and freeflow manifold. You have, I guess, a drilled or otherwise standard filter shroud with a k&n, whereas I've had a cone filter since I first ever fitted a stage 1.

I was talking to a guy from Maniflow on the weekend, as I was curious about the twin box for the next time i replace the exhaust, but mainly looking to replace my existing foam cone filter which was disintegrating (in the end I went for a k&n style cone to replace the knackered pipercross since I'm now used to the noise. All down to taste I guess, and after a few years of using that setup would likely miss it if it was gone! maybe I'm going deaf! ).

Anyhoo, trying to do justice to his words, he said to me, a drilled standard filter shroud with a k&n is the quietest compared to the cone filter, (concurring with Irostroke). With regards to the single box maniflow vs twin box maniflow, they will be similar in noise levels around town, e.g. under acceleration at low speeds, but the twin box would be lower noise on the motorway.

I know nothing of comparison between RC40 and Maniflow twin box as I've never owned either.
Cheers.
