Be interested in some input into my mini. Its registered as '69 MKII which it clearly isn't. The colour under the respray is a nasty yellow colour.

I have the grill half off as I'm changing some bits but would like to know what you can deduce from the photos as far as age is concerned and anything else about the car

I'd also like to know if you can tell from the photos what the engine is. Its number is

BHM1669E 149766

It also has the letter WEM 1024 NW and 4 R further down.

Lastly on one photo does anyone have any idea what the stray wire is and where it should go. It comes from a wiring loom near the alternator.

Thanks

BHM codes are factory reconditioned units... so you have a 998 engine that was Reconditioned by rover.

You sure its a 998? I just read on another site that the BHM1669E was a 1275 Gold seal MG Metro engine.

Just need it confirmed.

that stray wire should connect to the wire coming out of the side of the dizzy.

does have characteristics of mk2, obviously the lights (easy mod) but it also has the older style roof gutter with a hole in each corner instead of a gap in the gutter.
but then doesn't have external door hinges (cant remember if it was just the mk1s that had them, or weather it was also the mk2's?)

the wire is used when using points dizzy not used as your running a elecrtonic dizzy from the pics meaning you have a A+ engine fitted

Well, the thermostat housing is in the "1275 position", so it at least has a 1275 head...

I think I have a 1275 Gold Seal. Everything else points in that direction.

Not sure what they are or where I'd look. Any guidance would be great.

The tappet covers can be seen in black just behind the exhaust manifold in this picture:

Looking at the pictures I would say that it is a mk3 > shell more likely to be a mk4 (not mk2 as no external door hinges, wind up windows etc.etc) The engine looks like a 1275 A+ engine so no tappet covers etc, it is running a lucas electronic dizzy hence why you have the spare wire by the alternator also the chassis number & commission plate are not reverse stamped as they should be. Looks like someone has "re-shelled" it at some point. Does it have a center binnacle dash or clocks behind the column also does it have 2 stalks or one.

Has centre clocks and a single stalk. Does that mean its a MKIII or a reshelled MKII?

Cheers

I can't tell you much but I can tell you it has a "later" boot. Mk4 onwards I think... ?
The early ones were closely shaped around the plate and light - the later ones just have a big
oblong scoop.
