Hui
My car is a Mk1 (1960). I am trying to remove the door striker plates (the V shaped plates that screw onto each pillar below the latch). Anyway, the screws are very small, and appear to be stuck.

I thought about doing the following:

1) drill the heads off them, and lift of the plate.
2) Use long nosed pliers to remove the remains of the screw.

If I do it this way, I cannot see any replacement screws of the same type on the Minispares website. They look like quite small screws.

Any ideas on what to do here?

Cheers

Use a shock screwdriver! The one where you bang the end with hammer and it twists - very handy instrument to have in the tool kit. Crudely - you can just use an old screwdriver and apply a few sharp blows to it - then try again to unscrw. Don't drill them except as very last resort!!

If you end up drilling them out, you should be able to get the replacement part from Moss.

Hi
I have managed to remove the screws with an impact driver. I have made a big mistake though. This is really stupid, but I have hit the screws too hard and dented the metal on the body inwards, just around the area where the screws fit. Lapse of concentration and commons sense i soppose
There doesn't seem to be a way of getting anything behind it to knock it back out again...

Picture attatched showing the area, it seems to be dented inwards about 2mm or so (the picture doesnt show that however).

Can anyone please help? How can i pull this out?

Cheers
