Another update on the engine, spent all weekend on it in the end. Managed to get it back in and running. pictures...

New transfer gears in place:

I'm waiting for new engine mounts, exhaust and aditional top engine steady to arrive now. I took the car out for a quick spin and the sound the new straight cut drops make is so nice. The stage 3 head has made a huge difference to how the engine responds, it's a lot more responsive now - I must get it tuned up ASAP though.

Cheers George.

Bad news! The engine is going to have to come out again. I realised today that I forgot to put the idler gear shims back in! ARGH. Oh well, will make it easier to fit new engine mounts I guess.... grrr.

Pretty impressive to have that all done in a weekend, well done :P . Was going to mention the lack of idler shims in the picture but thought it might be a mockup before you fit it up properly!! How are the drops, really loud inside?

Cheers GreaseMonkey :P Yeah the drops are proper loud inside as I have no sound deadening, carpet or interior. Literally just one seat in there at the moment.

I'm trying to find the little bearing that goes on the end of the input shaft and locates into the transfer casing and is held in with the circlip. I've found this on minispares, which looks totally different but the description suggests it is a suitable replacement. Can anyone confirm this? (http://www.minispare...ty=pb&pid=34535)

by the way I cannot beleive how much the crank shaft/flywheel locking key costs, they're around £25!!

I think this is what your looking for, the picture shows it sitting in the part which goes into transfer casing

Hey Matt, I'll take a picture of the side for you, planning to take it out for a few pictures tonight as I've just got it running again.

UPDATE!

So, after lots of very annoying issues getting the car back up and running I've done it. I first had the engine out to shim the idler gear properly, put it all back and and got it running, then realised I had forgot the bloody clutch sleeve/top hat thing that goes between the release bearing and the clutch! After having the engine out twice I decided that I couldn't be bothered to get it out again so managed to remove the clutch cover while the engine was in the car and put the sleeve in.

Took it for a run this afternoon, about 10 miles - once the car was warm it started to make this horrendous tapping sound, like the valve clearances were not set properly. Took it home, had the rocker cover off and saw that valve number 6's adjuster had no nut on it and it was wound all the way out!! >_< :ermm: :) Luckily the missing nut was sat on the face of the head, just about to go down one of the pushrod holes. I set the valve clearances again and ensured the adjuster nuts were all very tight. It's now running perfectly apart from the exhaust is now leaking from the y-piece. I've got a new 1.75" exhaust on order to replace the current fart cannon that is on there, once that's fitted I'm making a visit to the rolling road to see what the recent upgrades have done.

Bit of an essay, sorry!

BAD picture, makes the car look terrible but you can see the wheels.

Did a quick vid to show sound of the straight cut drops:
bSHcLLCdOD4

Leaky exhaust and crappy camera makes it sound lame though - new exhaust on order! Also you can hear the engine knocking due to the broken steady bracket, getting that fixed in the next week with any luck.

It's running VERY hot at the moment, had to pull over to stop it overheating yesterday :) I think my brand new head gasket may have gone already.

Looks and sounds great mate, keep up the good work, also totally agree with you on the large bore exhausts, they sound like a great idea until you have one and you realise just how pointless they are, silly loud and are mean't to make the damn thing slower.
