I have a 1988 mini city with a 1275 A+ engine. I have recently fit a hif44 modded carb ( vizard style ), ported inlet manifold, stage 3 head and BCE needle. I started the car up 3 days ago and it was running erratically on tickover. i consulted the forum and found out that the vacuum takeoff was in the wrong place. Changed that and then had a leak around the new water pump i fitted. Fixed that and started her back up again. It was running fine and i used the dashpot lifting pin to gauge the mixture i altered this to make it richer (revs died on lifting so screwed the screw in). It seemed to be going ok but then as it was almost up to temperature the revs dropped and it coughed and slowly stalled. Now it wont start unless i leave it for a few hours then it will run for 10 - 20 seconds and stall again. I have set the mixture screw to the base setting as advised in the forum, i have checked spark, condenser, points gap,HT lead resistance, static timing, firing order, plugs, and the resistive wire measures 1.5 ohms, i have also tried bypassing the resistive wire to the coil and it does the same runs then dies. The coil resistance measures 1.9 - 2.0 ohms (which seems a little high) and is an intermotor 11070 which is the correct ballast coil. I have also done the fault finding exercise in the haynes manual and it vaguely points towards a coil fault. I have a aldon distributor with electronic ignition should i do away with my points and condensor and fit this? From my powers of deduction LOL i think it may be a coil fault or fuelling (there is plenty of fuel coming through), i hadnt rebuilt the carb, just dismantled it modded and ultrasonically cleaned it. Any ideas would be welcomed as i know there are some clever guys out there! Thanks for reading.

Theres something wrong with the carb reassembling, dismantle it and reassembly following an SU/hynes manual.
Your problem can be also caused by a worn needle valve, a vizard modded hif44, with its improved air flow, can be crazy overfuelling if that valve is worn.
