Hi everyone,
I've recently put together a mini engine (1440cc) with some parts borrowed from an MG Montego 1.3 A+ more specifically the cylinder head and the camshaft...
Since I don't know almost anything about these MG Montegos (except that it has big valves), my doubt is if I have a camshaft and cylinder head that take advantage of this engine's potential since I'm looking for a Fast Road application...
I also own a Kent MD276 but I'd have to take the engine apart again and I've been told that the MG Montego camshaft is the same as the MG Metro???
Also the MG Montego head came with single valve springs (already replaced with double) and I wonder what are the differences between a MG Metro engine and a MG Montego?
Could someone enlighten me with the differences and similarities between these two engines?

Thanks :D

I could be wrong here but I don't think the MG Montego was an A plus engine, pretty sure is was a 2.0 litre engine.

The Montego did come with a 1300 (1275) A plus version, but it wasn't an MG badged model.

MG Montegos had a 2.OL OHC engine nothing like your Minis. There was a 1.3 A Series Montego, but the only MG 1.3 was the Metro.

Montego A+

1.3" inlet 252 degs
1.15" ex 252 degs

As far as I know - the ONLY engine with the MG Metro cam - is the MG Metro (not Turbo) and that engine was also used in the GTa Metro. Are you SURE you have the big valve head ? Single springs suggest otherwise!

Which doesn't neccesarily mean you know all... :-
See p.e. ACDodds cam chart: http://miniclassic.yuku.com/topic/5261

Or MiniSpares: http://minispares.co...a...O AND HIF...

Nice cam that is! :D

Oh - I don't claim to 'know all' by any means! Wich is why I said - as far as I know!! I knew the MG engine was used in VdP and GTa - but very surprised to see the cam was used in the RSP Cooper - and I have no idea what a Metro Sports is anyway! ! But I happily accept anything ACD says! Thanks for the links - I had them before, and lost them when I had to wipe my drive.
Edit - And I note the Minispares link confirms my thoughts that the Turbo MG did NOT use the MG camshaft - as some others were claiming recently!

Maybe it's a regular Montego 1.3A+ in an MG body I don't know... but still it supposedly has 68hp and the MG Metro has 73hp so there couldn“t be much difference between them, right?
The head is a 1.4"/1.15" like the Austin 1300 GT... :S
Could it be the double valve springs that make up the difference or perhaps a different cam?
The carb was a HIF44 like the MG Metro...
