Hi All,

Sorry not sure this is the right forum section?

I am considering replacing the rear sub frame on my 1997 MPI (sports pack). The existing one isn’t too bad, a Recent MOT Pass but I like the idea or preparing a new sub frame, painting it up and transplanting the radius arms, trumpets etc..

The thing is which sub frame do I need?
I keep coming across post 1991 frames with the exhaust hangers, but then Mini sport have a genuine Post 1997(sports pack) that’s £367 inc VAT!. Allot more than the other none genuine ones that don't mention the sports pack option.
I have an RC40 cat back system that uses the standard exhaust mounts but i am happy to use bolt on hangers if that’s an option.
Does anyone know what the difference is with the various rear sub frame options, and do I need to take any specific considerations if it’s for a sports pack mini?

Thanks

Neil

Technically, I have read there is a "Sportpack" specific rear subframe. If that's part KHB100590 you're looking at, it supposedly has extra spot welds to make it stronger. This is to absorb the extra stress the big 13" wheels exert.

That being said, people put 13" Sportspack wheels on all manner of Minis, and to the best of my knowledge (limited, admittedly) I have never heard of rear subframe failures. But then maybe people just aren't looking closely...

Thanks for that,
Interesting... considering I plan to convert back to 10" wheels anyhow I guess there is little point in going for a 'genuine' sportspack rear subframe.

remember when you convert to 10's you will have front brake issues if you are running standard 8.4 disks

Oh yes I know thanks. More to add to the shopping list :gimme: any recommended kits? MiniSport is local to me and they have a nice alloy calliper conversion set with 7.5 discs that apparently uses the original hubs. Anyone tried it?
