In the late SPi fusebox, fuse 23 is never used. I believe that 19 - 22 are used in Japan spec cars only (for air conditioning, catalyst heat warning, seat belt warning and other Japanese spec items). There are also some systems only fitted for Germany that may be powered from certain fuses.

1 15A Heated rear screen
2 15A Reverse lamps, Stop lamps, Dim-dip relay, Indicator relay
3 15A Cooling fan
4 15A Dim-dip resistor
5 15A Heater fan, Power sunroof (where factory fitted)
6 15A Wipers / washers
7 20A Headlamp flash, Horn, Alarm (where factory fitted)
8 10A Tachometer, Engine ECU, Fuel pump relay, Alarm (where factory fitted)
9 10A Stereo, Cooling fan relay, Auto gear gate lamp
10 10A Stereo memory, Interior lamp, Indicator / hazard flasher, Alarm LED, Brake test lamp
11 10A Fuel pump
12 10A Starter cranking
13 10A Left hand side lights / tail lights, Number plate lamp
14 10A Right hand side lights / tail lights, Instrument panel lighting
15 10A Left hand headlamp main beam
16 10A Right hand headlamp main beam, Main beam warning lamp
17 10A Left hand headlamp dipped beam
18 10A Right hand headlamp dipped beam
19 20A Not used UK
20 15A Not used UK
21 10A Not used UK
22 20A Not used UK
23 Not used
24 10A rear fog lamp

I remember you said before that your horn is working. If the horn works and the lamps work in all other repects the problem must be in the switch. A common cause for this is the stalk being bent or an after market steering wheel being fitted, both of these will simply stop you being able to pull the switch far enough to make the connection. Does the stalk touch the rim of the wheel when you pull it?

Hi Dan,

Sorry to open up an old post, but I found your fuse description list during a fusebox search. I have a UK 1995 Cooper Spi which has the blade fuse type of fusebox. I wanted to find a list that describes what each fuse is for. So I'd like to check whether your list in this post suits my car?

At the moment the list doesn't add up for my car... my fuse No. 4 is blown and it seems to supply the brake test switch lamp (but in your list it says fuse No. 10).

As far as I know there is only one wiring layout for SPi cars with that fusebox. Your wiring may have been messed about with by previous owners, is anything else unusual happening?

I'll explore more tonight and reply with more info...

However, at this moment there is at least one fault I can remember. The driver's side spot light doesn't work (they come on with the main beam). I measured the voltage at the bulb connector and it's showing only a quater of a volt! I haven't checked for a bad earth yet. Are the spot lights fused individually (like with the head lamps)?

Apart from fuse 4, all other fuses are intact.

Forgot to add, even when I replaced the fuse, the spot lamp still didn't light. It would be handy to know which fuse(s) serves the spot lights.

Update: I found a loose connection on the brake fluid float switch, must have knocked it in to a "good" state when fiddling with the fusebox... typical!

Anyway, is there a fuse for the spot lights? And are they fused individually (in the same way that each headlamp has their own fuse)?

Hi Glowpot, i have a 1996 cooper and my spotlights decided to stop working completely. I followed the cable back to the relay and found that when i switched long beam on the relay would smoke. I have now replaced the relay and all is well. Hope this helps!

They will be fused somewhere but to my knowledge they weren't included in the standard loom until the introduction of the MPi. It's unlikely they will each be on seperate fuses though. They'll probably be on an inline fuse, probably 15 amps if it's a blade. This sounds more like a wiring problem if one has a bad supply and the other is fine.

I didn't have to trace the cable very far, one pin from the the lamp's connector (on the loom) came out of the connector when I opened it. Managed to re-fit the loose pin and now the spotlight works. (If it pops out again then I may just replace the connector with a suitable replacement.)

Cheers!

Is your Mini a twin-point? You'll know it is as the radiator is fitted up front. If so, then you'll need to look up the later type fusebox ratings as the fusebox for a twin-point Mini is mounted beneath the dash (drivers legs) instead of on the bulkhead.

You'll find the twin-point fuse ratings in the pdf files provided on page 40 of this thread: -

As for a replacement cover, try Somerford Minis.
