Hi, i have recently bought a 1985 Mini City, 998cc, as my first car. I love it, but would like to fit a new exhaust to it and have read that RC40 systems are very good and have decided that this is what I want. However, I am on a very tight budget and can't afford a new mainfold so will buy a 'magic pipe' to connect the manifold to the downpipe. This is where the problem lies, i would like a single box system with centre exit, but have no idea what downpipe to buy! I have been recommended the AN180V and RC40-003, but both these downpipes have bends at either end and i can't see how these will allow me to fit a centre exit back box. Will i be required to cut the bends to make the downpipe straight?
The back boxes I am thinking of buying are the RC40-011 and the RC40-012. I am not sure which to go for, because the RC40-012 is large bore and I have heard that these are not good for the 998cc. However, will the other exhaust, which i think has a bore of 1.75", fit onto the downpipe and if so, how?
I think its fair to say I am very confused!

All help will be gratefully received, many thanks
Matt

The AN180V and a fitting kit is what you need.
Honestly i've always fitted twin box centre exit exhasust, because the single box centre exit RC40 is bloody noisy.
I dont think you need to cut the rear bend, that bend is to make the exit straight to the centre, because the manifold exits with a slight offset on left side. Fit the complete exhaust system, without tightening the hangers, and see how it goes.
You have to drill a couple of holes in the rear subframe to fit most centre exhausts, so take your time and do it proper.

Ok, thanks for that. Thats a great help, i can get on with ordering now! One more thing though, which back box should I get? Would the AN180V fit both back boxes, or just the smaller bored one? Sorry that I may be asking silly questions, but I am truely confused!

The inlet of the rear box is the same, is the tail pipe which is different. Get the one you like, the smaller one seems to perform better for standard applications.
