hi i have 10 x 6 wellers my car is running 12 inch minilites at moment was going to buy the conversion kit to convert to 10s but someone said theres an easyer way 1st we were told to fit the wellers we did that the wheel clears the disc easy by 6mm but the caliper hitting the rim soeone said to grind the caliper down to get it to fit as he said i wont need to run a spacer as the wheel itself fits fine around the disc i just would like to no is this fine and safe as long as the caliper is machined right to get it to fit?

i suppose as long as the caliper is machined properly to a high standard...and the wheels don't catch at all on them
and your offset is ok...it could work...but who knows.

see what other peoples opinions are first

I would suggest you don't mess with the calipers, you can get a fiesta brake coversion done which is apparently a very good conversion for a mini and will allow for the smaller rims as well as uprating the brakes :) Might be cheaper than getting it machined/filed

but with that conversion calipers still have to be machined...well the mounting bracket and something else has to be machined i think
although this will be the route i go lol

I've never done that. I know someone who said that he had machined the standard caliper down to clear the rim, but someone else said that when he tried to do this the caliper was unsafe (how'unsafe' I don't know). Do the fluid galleries in the caliper go anywhere near where you would be machining. The way to do it safely is, maybe, to get a spare caliper and saw it through to see where the fluid sits and to ensure that you leave enough 'meat' after machining.

hi i no people have been saying not to bother and buy conversion kit i dont understand why in the conversion kit it comes with new drive flanges this is what comes in the kit i dont no how to put links up like guys do i just copyed it lol

This fantastic conversion from Mini Sport allows you to convert your Mini from running 12" wheels down to 10" wheels, for the "ultimate" classic look. Complete conversion includes discs, drive flanges, calipers, brake pads ready to build and fit.

is this really all il need or will i need offer parts and will it matter that im running a servo?

someone correct me if im wrong but

the new flanges are needed in order to centralise the disc (and caliper) within the wheel therefore the wheel will not rub on the disc or caliper

It was me saying that. I wouldnt advice to approach the slight griding if you're not very confident with grinder.
Has been done with good results, but theres a risk you damage the caliper.
Best get hold of cooper s discs and calipers or the fiesta 7,9" discs and calipers.

I believe Cooper S hubs aren't needed for the converion, it's just the calipers and drive flanges. The obviously new discs and pads. I will be doing this soon, but the money pot seems very empty at the moment >_<

the 7.9 fiesta conversion will also need some grinding down and ofcourse the 8.4 disc turning down to 7.9.

could always look in a local scrappy and see if theres any minis running on tens..and nab the brake setup of that

Cooper s setup kit come with 7,5" discs with studs fitted, drive flanges and obviously the calipers.
No need to change the hub when going down from 8,4" to 7,5".

ive got 6x10 wellers fitted over 8.4" brakes, all u need is a 1" spacer if u dont feel confident in machining the callipers. but youll need fairly wide arches to cover the wheels!

ive also machined down a set of mg metro 4 pot callipers myself, with an angle grinder and a drill, to fit over 7.9" vented and groved discs, it takes a steady hand, as u gotta re-drill the mounting bolt holes for the hubs, and grind certain parts off the calliper edge. i will be making a set up soon, as a guide for anyone else wanting 4pots on the cheap!

hope this helps!
