The manual says the front and top is marked. I bought one that is not marked. There is a smooth side and a side with a texture. Which side is on the block and which side to the head? Stock 998. Silver colored head gasket.

I've got a few head gaskets and one thing I've noticed is that if you look at the faces one side is completely smooth the other side will have a metal ring round the holes for the bores where the other side of the gasket as been folded over.

The ring side goes up.

Although in all honesty I've not worked out why it makes a difference the gaskets are symetrical the holes line up identical either way up.

That tallies with what I said previous :proud: because the metal face will be folded over the textured side to form the bore sealing rings
