All the lights have been working fine till today when i was working on the car i had to move some of the wire making sure i did not disconnect anything while doing so. But when i tried to drive in the dark today i realised that the lights at the rear of my car were extremely dim and at one point turned off after checking there was no loose connections i was not sure what to do dose anyone known what this could be? also the lights in the dashboard are extremely dim but do brighten up slightly when i switch to full beam.

thank you

Well the rear lights and dash are off the same fuse, so start there, remove fuse, check, clean, replace/re-new.

If it's a wiring fault, then it'll be before the wire splits off to te rear, so should make it easiert to find.

I have checked the fuse as soon as i got to the car all four where fine which i expected because i was getting light just dim. Then after disconnecting my battery and checking all the wires are fine then connecting the battery the fuse at the bottom blow. This has happened to me three times in two days ant the car was fine till yesterday

What the condition of the fuse box? contacts at the rear which you can't see with out removing it can rot

hmmm, I'm not so hot on dreaded electrics but seems either somewhere on the circuit there is a unwanted current draw (bad earth?) or the circuit is getting the required current in the first place. I would check, using a multimeter, what current draw your getting of the fuse box for this circuit and compare it to the values in haynes. Dip dim relay and resistor might be worth a check also.

again not 100% here, but giving possible ideas ;)

edit: just thought, what conditon is the headlight switch is in? or did your headlights stay on when the rears went out? would indicate a problem with the rears wiring more than anywhere else

Just looking in the haynes, and I'm assuming we're talking about a 4 fuse box here, the dip dim relay. is on that circuit. Possible that is duff and giving you problems, not totally sure but a possibility? Also worth swapping the 15 amp fuse for that circuit for a known good one, had one recenlty that seemed alright when tested with a multimeter but tap it and it went duff, tap again and its fine, so broken internals ;) something else worth to try :)

From that I'd say you've narrowed it down to a short in the side light circuit, when you say the rest works do you mean the rear light and instrument lights are back to normal brilliance? I'd leave the side lights disconnected while you trace their wires, saves on blowing fuses ;)
