Hi,

I need to buy the correct lead to connect to my MJ V4, but I don't know which lead to buy.
I'm not sure if my laptop has got the serial port or not. The USB leads are twice the price of the normal one :ermm:
Can someone put up a pic of the serial port on a laptop or the end of the lead please that MJ uses, so I can have a look which one to buy please?

Thanks.

Thats a serial port, and this is the cable you need if you dont have a serial port:

http://www.maplin.co...?ModuleNo=29968

Other adaptors are available, but the general opinion on the Autosportlabs forum is that that one works best with most laptops and MJ units.

And that is the lead from the MJ unit to serial port. I made my own up, and the instructions are on their website HERE

Thats great information, thanks.
Just one query, will this one work please?

"For Megajolt the Cable has the RJ11 one end and DB9 Female on the other end so no adaptors necessary"

http://cgi.ebay.co.u...id=p3286.c0.m14

Seems like a cheap alternative if it will work.

Thanks.

The cable pictured on that auction is just a serial DB9 male to to female extension cable, but in the description it does say it's a serial DB9 to RJ11 cable that is what you need.

Either way this one is still cheaper and is definetley the correct cable: http://cgi.ebay.co.u...id=p3286.c0.m14

If you done have a serial port on your computer then there's no way around it, you need a serial to usb adapter like the one mentioned previously.

That is the same thing as this:

http://www.autosport...-mjlj-p-43.html

So yes that will work.

Which is also the same thing as you linked on eBay, 1275 SPRITE.

That is all you need if you have a serial port, otherwise yes, you need the serial adaptor from Maplin (other ones may not be fully compatible with MJ)
