Ok so today i've ordered my welder finally its a clarke 150amp gas and gassless welder but it comes with fluxwire as that what i plan to use at first, i can't wait to get stuck in now, i've got a few things to get sorted worst of which is my floor and around the fresh air vents wich will be welded over. Also i've sent an email to arc angels on the parts i need, hopefully the reply will be good and i can go get some new panels soon as there just down the road from me, will let you know what parts once i know when i'm getting it.

:D

Thanks rich, it does need some tuning but its amazing massive difference, a new head is next on the engine front then some other little bits then i will be saving for a complete rebuild. ideally i want a rally/race spec head like 31x37 valves and some good porting and polishing.

I am hopefully going to go to some shows, trying to decide weather to go to riv run or not, would like to but i want it to be good weather, plus i was going to go to rtts too but not sure how many minis are going.

Sorry for the late update to anyone who reads the thread, it’s been a busy while where a lot has happened but very little has been done on the car...

Right first thing was around 3 weeks ago I was stopped by mr police man over my exhaust as he thought it was illegal so he gave me a provider to prove its legal (and another provider for my insurance as he couldn't prove that I had any, which I did). The reason it sounded like it did though, was because of its single box system with a weber and it was miss firing horribly. Since then I’ve had to take the weber off, overhaul the dizzy a bit and put the SU on again so that I could go to the mot man and prove to him its legal, I got him to approve even without a cat on a 93 which I was well happy about, and my plans are to rebuild the weber to go on my new engine that I am building soon..Ish!

Next off was the top engine steady bushes that needed doing but when we went to replace them with poly types and the whole damn bracket on the bulkhead was cracked and needed welding, this was because it had been like it before I even bought the car so the damage had already been done. This has been fixed now but since I have found that the gearbox mount on the drivers side has rusted out and now rocks about like mad so that’s another job to be done, I think I’m going to have to cut a large amount out and start again on that area.

Finally, today while out and about the car decided to over heat and now sits firmly on the red when ever I drive over 2k, I got out and could hear hissing around the arch where the rad is, haven't worked out what this is yet though any ideas? I think it’s either a hose or the rad itself as there was nothing escaping from the cap.

On the upside lol I went to the Somerset rally at the weekend and got some great snaps that I’ll post up for anyone who wants to see them (you can't beat the sound of an old escort with a highly tuned pinto motor, I was drooling the whole time), also I now have my mig welder ready in time for all the repairs that need doing, and I’ve ordered my fiberglass front from the arc angels, with pre bonded apanels and some new group 2 arches. I have also now removed all of the sound deadening which is a job i don't want to have to do again. The last few weeks have been pretty up and down, and I even thought about selling it but I am not giving up yet.

Edit: sorry for the 500 word essay.

Thanks very much craig :), I wish i had more time with the old man to work on the car, arc angels still making my fg front so that should be ready soon, still need to do some welding then i can tidy the interior up, and i'm in the process of finding a new engine for it, and rebuilding the weber.

Pictures were up a little while ago but i forgot to post the link, sorry mate here you go:

Those pictures are amazing, you need to get yourself to the WRC Great Britain, make your sure you bring your camera :)

What shows are you doing this year? I need to see this Mini in the flesh!

Yeah hopefully it won't take too long for them to finish it, it will stay in white gel coat until the car is fully sprayed as it all needs doing (although the pictures don't show this).

And thanks on the pictures they weren't as good as i was hoping but with a new lense i should be able to make them much more sharp, the wrc would be awesome but not sure yet we'll see.

Not sure which show's i'll be going to either, don't really know many of them so i'll have to have a look on meets and events, was going to go riv run but didn't get it fixed in time, deff next year though! :dontgetit:

Ok so finally between me and my dad we've had a chance to do some more work to the car, the rust was really starting to annoy me and where the subframe mounts to the floor/bulkhead on the drivers side, it had cracked so some work needed doing. On saturday we went and got some sheet steel 1.2mm and .8mm thick and got started... we used the 1.2 mm stuff for this job.

One of the previous owners was deffinatly a profesional welder! Not happy at all with the state of this repair we cut it out and started again.

Posted Image

The patch is now in but needs welding from the inside and needs reinforcing, will post some more pictures when progress happens. I have also finally got rid of all the sound deadening desidue, hopefully i won't have to do that again for a long time!

And my water pump started leaking a few weeks back so my neighbour very kindly got up early on sunday in the gorgous weather and fitted my new one, turns out it was leaking from one of the holes that was there because of the casting process a non mechanical fault.
