I am rebuilding an engine, I have just put cam in, and also just put on a plate on the side of the block.

But I was just wondering what this hole is? I cant find or see anything which goes into it, there is no thread or anything in it. I just in a hole which goes from the timing chain into the block.

Can anyone explain to me what this is?

(middle hole, inbetween crank - top, and cam bottom)

First off, that's the front of the engine not the side. It may seem wrong because of how the engine is mounted in the car but if you refer to that as the front all the time it will be much easier to understand everything as you build.

That hole is a breather essentially, it allows for the pressure to equalise between the timing chest and the crank case and allows the crankcase ventilation system to draw right through the whole engine.

Ok thanks for that guys.

I was just checking to make sure that nothing is missing or needed to go there.

Thanks
