Hello Everyone,

After a bit of clarification please. My clutch is the verto type and i am tryng to remove it but going through the haynes step by step process I get stuck at pretty much the start :)

It says ' Rotate the crankshaft until the driving slot in the flywheel, located just behind the flywheel centre bolt head, is horizontal'

What is the driving slot? I think it is the two slots at both sides of the centre bolt, would I be correct in saying that? Didnt want to do it and end up breaking the flywheel which it warns of.

Thanks

Chris

Yes - the 'slot' can be seen as the two edges under the large bolt and the stepped washer. Best to have the slot horizontal - lock the flywheel there so it doesn't turn as you struggle with the puller! You do have a puller ??

Yeh ive got the puller, had to put in an order at minispares especially causing me to to buy more parts for the mini :)

So its the two slits to the side of the large bolt.

Good luck! Remove the bolt AND the stepped washer - fit the puller with the central plug in the hole (where the bolt came out) and tighten up the puller. Then tighten it some more! Then bang the head of the puller bolt with a wee heavy hammer, tighten some more - bang again. Hopefully - the flywheel will spring off - with a bang!

Just as an FYI.....I've just removed 2 Verto flywheels. One came off with just the teeniest bit of torque on the puller. The other took a hydraulic puller, heat, and penetrant to get it free. It flew 2.5 feet across the garage when it finally let loose, so don't stand in front of a stubborn one!
