just wondering as i have the chance to get an eci off an spi - on it's own without key fobs etc and just wondered if this could be any use to me as lots of these things 'interconnect' ??

Depends what car it comes off. if its a coded ECU and will need the matching alarm ECU and fobs, or, have the whole system recoded by a specialist.

This is what you need to be looking for MNEXXX1XX if the 1 is a zero, in that numerical order, it is an uncoded ECU and could be used as a spare for example. MNE101050 is an uncoded Non Cooper ECU and MNE 101150 is a coded Non Cooper ECU. However, there is no point fitting an ECU intended for a Cooper, if you have a Non Cooper (unless the engine has been modified as such) While it will work, it wont be right.

Basicaly if the number on this spare is not the same as the one in your car, it wont work as well as it could, and, if the ECU in your car is a coded ECU, and the spare is also a coded, the imobiliser system will need re coding by a specialist. If however, the spare ECU is uncoded, it will work in any car, remembering that if its not the same specification, it wont run as well as it could.
