Hi guys (and gals),

I have taken on a rebuild project taht was in a thousand bits when i got it. It started out life as a mayfair 850 automatic. The previous owner discarded that engine and bought a 1275 a series engine (or so it was advertised as) from ebay. He then lost interest in the project so i took it on. So far i have spent thousands uprating everything including the mains and big end bearings.

The mains bearings i removed were solid with a central locating tab at one end, however the new ones that have arrived have an offset tab, a groove and an oil hole. with the tab being off set, naturaly it does not fit the mains cap. I cant seem to find anywhere that stocks this center tag bearing in vandervel. where can i get some and why are they different? PLEASE ADVISE?????

Plain bottom center tang bearings are for the ~87> A+. The Metro Turbo used these same bearings some time before they were introduced across the range.

You should be able to get the Vanderval bearings, althout the Vanderval VP2 bearings are becoming more difficult to get hold of. The Glacier bearings are up to the job as well.

Vandervel are owned by Glacier anyway! But the Glacier AL/Sn bearings are perfectly ok - as long as the oil pressure is maintained at ALL times (ie no surging!) - the crank floats on a wedge of oil and never touches the bearing surface.

Both are actually owned by ....... Mahle .... yes that German company that makes parts for 90% of European cars :D so in the the near future you will be seeing Mahle packaging with Vandervell or Glacier part numbers on them ... for now. :)

Vanderval were owned by AE, as was Glacier. AE was part of the Federal Mogal group.

Both Vandervell and Glacier bearings come in an AE box,
