just extend the wires into the cabin and fit a manual switch
it doesn't matter what wire goes where as there are only 2 and all the switch does is join them together

also do i need to blank off the hole where the switch mounted at the thermostat housing?
also where in relation should the temp gauge be when i need to turn the fan on?

yes, internal switch is the cheapest and easiest thing to do and is actually quite practical.
i think you will find that the wires from the thermostat lead under the wing and plug into the wires from the fan, you can shorten all this and add a new loop of wire straight through the bulkhead and onto a switch. i hid mine under the steering column.
and just to clarify, no i don't know of a cheap place to get the original part. taffy might

you can use the fan whenever you like, you should know the temp that your car usually runs at so anything above that is fine.
i used to flick mine on when in traffic jams or really hot days. the london to brighton run is the perfect example.
if your car is running as it should, it won't really need the fan, it's just a back up
on my car, the remains of the switch blocked the hole of perfectly, it just stayed there
