We have a 1999 Mpi that has been standing for a year a two and it will not start
It has a spark at the plugs and will fire up if petrol is dropped into the throttle body, so that tells me coil pack and crank sensor are all OK
On cranking the fuel pump operates and fuel is pressurised into the injector rail but the fuel is not squirting from either injector on cranking. Has anyone got any ideas?

Blocked injectors or fuel filter?

ECU connector may have bad/dry conections, so not getting a signal to Injectors and hence not injecting.
I know i used to have to remove my ECU in the winter warm up in the house and fit first thing to get it to start correctly
Just a thought.

The previous owner left his wife, child and Sportspack, and decamped to another country with another women no doubt! We have another sportspack in stock 50k Miles that when it arrived with us we were able to remove the inner dash rail by hand without removing the three nuts .. it needs outer sills, inners repaired, scuttle, bonnet, both wings, A panels and front panel. Sourcing all that from heritage was bad enough!!
Anyway, I have removed the injectors and on cranking we get a puff of petrol for the first three seconds of cranking, thereafter nothing. Does this look like an ECU issue?

I would say that the ecu is obviously doing its job in activating the injectors so i would clean out all the fuel lines in case the old fuel left in them all this time has blocked them up and get the injectors cleaned up at a specialist.
Change the fuel filter as well, fuel does go off after a while.

Why does everyone always suggest a faulty ecu in this section when there is no evidence to suggest this is the problem?
My wheel's fallen off........
You have a faulty ecu!
