Well had a bit of a problem yesterday, he was running fine and i drove to (well almost to) bath were he broke down, i thought it was because i had run out of fuel (what a plonker i felt) so Mr AA came out and gave me (at the cost of £7 for a gallon) some fuel and he run for a bit but kept cutting out, i finally got him going and drove into bath were he cut out again so Mr AA pushed me down the hill to the petrol station were i brimmed Vinis tanks. that only took 11 litres to do so i obviously hadnt run out as ive got 2 5.5gallon tanks, so more head scratching and checking this that and the other, started him up and he idled fine didnt die, so Mr AA was puzzled but went on his way, i then drove to a carpark were he promptly cut out and i had to start him up 4 times to get him in and around the car park and into the space. thats when i noticed the trail of fuel from were i had been turning him over.
i then went and saw friends as thats why i had traveled from Guildford to Bath in the first place.
so i returned to Vini and he didnt want to run again, so another nice Mr AA came out and diagnosed that the float in the chamber was sticking and he un stuck it with some WD40 type stuff and i went on my way, and drove all the way home.......I WISH!!!!!
i got to just inbetween bracknell and the M3 (so about 11miles from home) and the throttle return spring brakes so my revs go through the roof, i stop ring a friend who brings one out to me, we then drive in mini convoy about 3 miles down the road, were my bonnet decides that it doesnt like being down covering the engine and pops up, now the hook thats meant to stop it from comming all the way decides that it doesnt want to do it job either so i now have a bent bonnet and windscreen wipers, but luckly becuase i sammed the anchors on (almost making my friend crash his mini into the back of mine, he now wants 4pots lol) and the windscreen wipers took some of the force of it i dont have a smashed screen. now while we were taking the bonnet off i noticed that the fanbelt and managed to filp it self up side down so the toothed bit was pointing up woulds, wihch would explain the smoke when the revs went through the roof. but i do have a scratched scuttle and after some bending a badly fitted bonnet and a fanbelt that appears to of shurnk from the heat grrrr.
and there is the end of my tale, i drove the rest of the journey home with the bonnet on the back seat.

I had the same heart stopping moment with my mk1 when the bonnet decided it wanted to be open not closed and the retaining hook went on strike. Result was bent wipers and damaged scuttle. Hope you get it fixed soon

first run he got 56bhp then another couple of runs with Ian @minispeed changing the ignition curve to have a final figure of 65bhp!!! Very happy with that, Ian also fixed an issue with my float bowl sticking open.
And then that afternoon some doesy moo who was I quote "day dreaming" drove in to the back of him at traffic lights grrrrrr
