Slightly sad news on Arthur

Driving my friend back home, there was a guy on the pavement on what I thought were roller skates. I slowed down as I was aware of him wobbling around and didn't want to knock him over if he fell off the edge of the pavement. Instead he 'lost it' and his skateboard (not roller skates) then bounced up and hit Arthur's door resulting in a dent. If it wasn't a family forum I'd include some rude words! >:)

I'll try to get a photo up later but would appreciate your thoughts. Looks like it hasn't chipped the paint (I'm 90% sure) but there's a line (4 inches across, roughly) where the board hit the car and a circular dent surrounding it)

1) Worth claiming on the insurance for the repair?? I'm fully comp and I think I have no claims protection.

2) He managed to get the perfect door, not the rusty one which I'd planned to replace when the rust next showed through the primer and rattle can spray. Could just source two new doors, get them sprayed atlantic blue and use this as a kick to get the doors sorted. If people think this is a good idea, any recommendations for places who provide doors/ do resprays well/ fit doors, around the Bristol area. Any ideas of cost of doing this (roughly?)

3) Opinions on paying someone to bash it out - how good a job can I expect, and again recommendations/ideas of cost?

Why oh why did he get the perfect and non rusty door?! I pulled over to assess damage and insisted on storming up the road, just to say 'oy mate, take a bit more care, you've just done ££££££££ of damage to my car' but oddly enough he wasn't around anymore - I know he realised that his skateboard hit my mini

The problem with having such love and passion for minis is that when they get hurt it hurts me too! :errr:

NOT worth claiming, IMO. Protected NCB or not, your premium is likely to go up, plus its a declairable claim, that you have to mention if you change insurers in the next 5 years or so.

Find a good dentmaster/chipsaway franchise in your area, thy should be able to sort it out quite quickly.

Ah man thats terrible news :). I'd at least have the decency to approach you and at least offer you £40 so that you could get it fixed.

Its scum like him that give youths a bad name, although saying that, 90% are little sh*ts anyway.

What a little tit. If you see if again run over his skateboard. As said don't claim on your insurance its not worth it. Just get it pulled out or buy 2 new doors.

Bad luck mate, If your competent in bodywork I remember there being an article in MiniWorld on repairing dents, if not I'm sure you could find a good panel beater to sort it out.
Some people just have no common sense.

Thanks everyone for the advice, also for the sympathy and outrage at silly skateboarder, very much appreciated.

It looked worse in the dark under street lights that it does today for some reason?! I guess because it's when it catches the light it looks worse. My eyes go straight to it, but when other people have looked they say 'where'?! so it clearly isn't as bad as I thought - such a perfectionist about my mini! :)

So general good news, it hasn't actually scratched the paint, maybe just a tiny bit of the varnish. Thanks for the offer of a number modified90, but it's cool, got given the number of a local dude today who may be able to help out, will call him next week.

Then, when I decide to get the driver's door done I'll assess the cost/practicality of getting another door at the same time, but it may not even be worth it anyway as rest of door is fine, and hopefully a dingmaster will do a nifty job of making it nearly disappear as if by magic! :D

*chuckles* good thinking, if only he hadn't have run away. But then his 'skills' on Friday night when he lost it completely suggest that he wasn't much good, so I'd say his skateboard probably cost about a fiver!

I now have some suckers (dent pullers) they were very cheap so they'll probably be useless but worth a try when Arthur is next in Somerset.
