1995 Mini Cooper

Hello,

So I was looking at that boot liner thread and fancied having a pop at it, however my skills are vastly inferior to everybody else on that thread, so much so that I'm not even at the same starting point because my spare tyre doesn't fit.

The left hand side is kind of under the thing on the left (petrol tank?) although not all the way, but the right hand side rests on the battery stabiliser bar so it won't fit in it's designated hole and consequentl isn't flat, but tips up on the right.

Am I being some sort of world class spaccer that I can't get it in the hole? Is there a trick to it? Am I supposed to remove the battery every time I want to move the spare tyre? Please help as I want to move my undoubted DIY incompetence onto the boot liner.

Thanks

What size spare wheel do you have? Welcome into the forum :teehee: I have a stock 10" wheel in the back, not sure if they changed the boot floor to accomidate the larger 12" rims on the later cars though

Welcome to the 'Spare Doesn't Fit' club.

A standard 12" will fit, but ONLY JUST. If you get a slightly wider one - IE a Yoko - then I wish you the best of luck! It can be fitted in there, with a lot of perseverance and a smattering of bad language in most cases. Best to take the battery retaining bar out first, then fit the wheel in and refit the bar.

I have exactly the same problem, as you might gather, I actually had to modify a bootliner to fit with the slightly wider 12" in the back. Baseboard and sides are fine, back board had to be chopped a little and the carpet re-stapled to it.

Bugger

I was hoping you were going to laugh at me for being an idiot and then tell me how to fit it. It's 6" wide which is what seems to be stopping it fit under the tank (and I think it's just the normal tank). When you say 12" and 10" what is that referring to? Is it the diameter of the alloy?

If it's that, the spare is 13"! So I have no chance then. Maybe I'll just pop it in the glove box.

Since you're only supposed to drive careful with a spare anyway, would it matter if you drove on 3 x 13" and 1 x 10" or is that a silly idea?

My car came with 13" wheels and a 12" spare, you'll want a 12", not a 10". Besides, if you have disc brakes a 10" might not even fit up front.

13" spare wheels fit best if they are held upright against the seat back by a strap.
